Sunrise on the Beach

Since 13-year-old Margaret is the most frequent contributor to this blog, I thought a photo of her would be appropriate today. This was taken this morning as the sun was rising in the Ft. Pickens Area of the Gulf Islands National Seashore. Margaret and I have made sunrise on the beach a tradition for the two of us, enjoying the peaceful beauty of the coastline when no one else is around except the shore birds (below) and sand crabs.

At sunrise and sunset, the waters of the Gulf of Mexico change hues every few seconds. It is impossible to convey in photographs the hundreds of shades of blues and greens and grays... but we try.

  1. Beautiful! And what a sweet tradition the two of you have.

I could seriously spend the whole day just lying there, reading and napping.

  2. It is the best time to be at the beach! Evenings are nice, too, but generally there are more people out and about!

  3. You are doing a splendid job of helping us see the many colors and moods of your Gulf. I really love that first shot of wistful Margaret looking out to sea with the colors of sunrise playing all around her.

  6. That is an amazing photograph. The blankets and pillows set the tone!

We live near coastal Alabama and my contribution is a beach photo too. I never tire of looking at the ocean and it's many changing moods (oh so poetic this Friday morning :D )

    Have a wonderful weekend!
